The Bone Fish Capital of The World
Tiamo is ultimately suited for the perfect bone fishing experience and any angler who has experienced the reel-burning first run of a ten pound bonefish understands why men and women from around the world travel great distances to grapple with this wily adversary.
Make no mistake, Tiamo is by no means a bone fishing lodge. Rather, it is the rarest of hybrids: a great bonefishing locale where non-anglers will also have an amazing experience. For those couples interested in fishing, but wishing other options as well, it’s a match made in heaven. As we believe in quality over quantity, your fishing guide will be only one of the two available for our guests – four anglers maximum at any one time. These guides are the very best in The Bahamas so you can be assured that your fishing experience will be of an equally high standard to match the rest of your vacation. In keeping with our environmental commitment, Tiamo endorses only catch-and-release fishing and we do ask that you use barbless flies for the least amount of stress made on these incomparable creatures.
You can also choose to go deep-sea fishing into the Tongue of the Ocean with a local gentleman who runs Reel Tight fishing. Visit his website http://www.mwpr.com/reeltight.html for the details or let us know if you have any questions.
Bahamas Fly Fishing on the Flats of Andros Island Thoughtful in preparation and graceful in execution, fly-fishing is an angler’s communion with his or her environment. At Tiamo, we embrace the unique naturalist perspective of the fly-fisher and seek to provide our angling guests with the highest quality experience both on and off the water. The tidal flats and mangrove swamps of Andros Island are renowned among fly-fishers as the home of some of the best bonefishing on earth; they are home as well to tarpon, barracuda, jacks, and several species of shark. To minimize fishing pressure on these treasured flats, Tiamo will only accommodate a maximum of six anglers in three boats at any one time. Bahamas Bonefishing Guides The relative success of a fishing trip hinges on a respectful relationship between angler and guide. We have selected some of the most skilled and knowledgeable Androsian guides to get you out on the water and into fish with the greatest consistency possible. Our Bahamas fishing guides have inherited the legacy of generations of experience fishing these waters. They will go to great lengths to create optimal conditions for presentation of a fly. Perhaps just as importantly, they are each gifted with a positive attitude and share an angler’s appreciation for the pristine beauty of South Andros Island. Whether you are an expert caster or a newcomer to this timeless sport, Tiamo will work to pair you with a guide fitted to your ability and expectations. This commitment to anglers of all levels of experience makes Tiamo the perfect place to introduce your non-angling partner to fly-fishing. Experienced Bahamas Fishing Trip Guides ORNALD "SHINE" GREENE Ornald "Shine" Greene of Mangrove Cay, Andros, has been guiding professionally for eight years. His eyes are his greatest asset. He takes great pride in spotting big bones and putting his clients on them through a combination of careful boat positioning and a deep understanding of bonefish behavior. His most memorable day in his 16ft flats boat with its 90hp engine was on Andros Island’s legendary West Side, where he and his client landed 25 fish in the six to 10 pound class. MARVIN MILLER Marvin Miller of Mangrove Cay, Andros, is a four-year veteran of the bonefish guiding business. He is the morning man – his favorite time to fish is in the flat light of early morning, just as the sun clears the horizon and the bones tail in huge numbers on the flat water of the rising tide. A strong boat-handler, Marvin is known for his quick thinking and ace presentation. His best day in recent memory was also on the West Side, where he guided a client on the day of a lifetime – 37 fish landed in just over eight hours. When not guiding clients on his 16ft Actioncraft with an 90hp four-stroke Suzuki, Marvin is a commercial fisherman in the Bahamas. Guided Bonefishing Trip Rates Full-day rates for trips in and around the South Bight and to the famed West Side of Andros Island, which include the boat, guide services and a packed lunch on the water, are $475 per day for up to two people, regardless of who is fishing. Full-day adventures to the seldom fished and totally uninhabited Water Cays on the southwest side of Andros Island, including boat, guide services and a packed lunch on the water, are $575 for up to two people, regardless of who is fishing. Fishing Trip Preparation We strongly recommend that anglers arrive with light-colored long pants suitable for wear above and in the water, light colored long-sleeve and short-sleeve flats shirts, flats boots for wading, a long billed hat, polarized sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen. In addition, keep in mind that South Andros Island is very remote; there are few, if any, places to purchase angling gear while at Tiamo. Therefore, please come prepared with your 7-10 wt rods, reels, floating line, leaders, tippets and flies. A superior selection of bonefish flies can be found at www.saltwaterangler.com.
